Gorilla trekking in Rwanda

To visit Rwanda and not see the gorillas is a bit like going to Egypt and not see the Pyramids. You can of course skip them if it’s not something you find interesting but I think you somehow miss something important: an encounter with a key element of the local culture and identity. For Rwanda, gorillas as the main source of income. They are also a national heritage and a symbol of progress in conservation efforts.

Easter in Uganda

I know Easter is already a thing of the past, but this isn’t going to be an Easter post exactly 😉 It just so happened that we decided to get out of Rwanda and explore the neighbouring Uganda for the long Easter weekend. And when we got back, it took me a while to return to the world of internet after a nice break from constant WiFi, hence the delay in telling you how it was! 🙂

Hiking in South Africa – Cederberg (part 2)

Time to share some more hiking stories and photos from my recent trip to South Africa! In my previous post about the Cederberg I told you a bit about this magical place and how hot it was! But the temperature didn’t deter us and we were rewarded with another fantastic day out which included climbing rocks, admiring rock paintings (not only those made by the Bushmen!) and drinking lovely wine 🙂 

Hiking in South Africa – Cederberg (part 1)

I haven’t been around for a while, so where was I? In South Africa, actually 🙂 It so happened that friends we know from Pretoria invited us to their wedding at a vineyard in Stellenbosch, and you simply can’t refuse such an invitation, can you 😀 And since it’s actually a bit of a trek from Rwanda as there are no direct flights (you fly to Johannesburg, stay the night there as the plane lands at 22:30, and then fly to Cape Town the next day, which is another two hours), so we decided to make a holiday out of it and finally get to this one place we never managed to visit while we lived in SA, and which was still on my “must visit” list. Welcome to the Cederberg!

Isalo National Park, Madagascar

Today I would like to take you to one of the most spectacular places on this planet – the Isalo National Park in Madagascar. I went to the Red Island in September 2015 for two weeks with my friends, which was nowhere near enough to see everything we wanted to see as Madagascar is huge (so the famous Avenue of Baobabs still remains on my list of places to visit). While lemurs were obviously one of the highlights, Isalo simply blew my mind with its incredible landscape. We explored it on an 8-hour hike with a fantastic guide, and I certainly would love to go back!
